The ABCs of Early Intervention
6-Hour Self-Study Video Course
Course Summary
Working with the birth-to-three population is a rewarding, yet often challenging experience for early intervention providers. Community-based services require providers to move from a dyadic model of service delivery to a triadic model, which includes parents and caregivers as integral members of the early intervention team. This course will examine the ABCs of early intervention to empower providers with evidence-based strategies for working with infants and toddlers and their caregivers. Some of the topics we will explore include barriers to success in early intervention, coaching the caregiver, routines-based IFSP outcomes, neurodiversity-affirming practices, and providing effective services in the childcare setting.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, the participant will be able to:
1. List 5 potential barriers to success in early intervention.
2. Describe the rationale for “bagless” sessions.
3. Explain how parent coaching differs from parent education.
4. Summarize how to optimize parent/caregiver participation during the session and maximize follow-through between sessions.
5. Demonstrate how to write functional, routines based IFSP outcomes.
6. Outline how to make coaching work in the childcare setting.
